Grace Birch came to a family of ten girls.

Shemarried Forland Hyrum Mortensen in 1921.   In the early thirties, she raised a large garden and several chickens.  Every Saturday morning she would wash the eggs  and go to town and trade eggs for groceries.

Grace was always very particular about her wash.  The clothes had to be just right, hanging from the longest to the shortest.

Grace used to have a hard time deciding what give her mother-in-law for a birthday present.  One time Grace  went and bought three nice fabrics, 1-yard each and gave them to her mother-in-law for her birthday.  Though her mother-in-law loved the fabrics and was so excited about receiving them, Grace's husband said he thought taking a good piece of material and cutting it up into quilt blocks was the most foolish thing he had ever seen.
Grace made a quilt for each of her grand-daughter's trousseau.
