Gallery - 2nd Generation - Grace Birch Mortensen
Made for Mary Anne as a wedding gift.Grace Birch came to a family of ten girls. Shemarried Forland Hyrum Mortensen in 1921. In the early thirties, she raised a large garden and several chickens. Every Saturday morning she would wash the eggs and go to town and trade eggs for groceries. n Grace was always very particular about her wash. The clothes had to be just right, hanging from the longest to the shortest. Grace used to have a hard time deciding what give her mother-in-law for a birthday present. One time Grace went and bought three nice fabrics, 1-yard each and gave them to her mother-in-law for her birthday. Though her mother-in-law loved the fabrics and was so excited about receiving them, Grace's husband said he thought taking a good piece of material and cutting it up into quilt blocks was the most foolish thing he had ever seen. |
